Overview: Even in death, Mentor is one snarky bastard. His skills in sarcasm are legendary....to him, at least. He is something of an old romantic, longing once again for the days of courtship and chivalry, yet secretly enjoying the loss of gallantry and virtues, and all the while moping about how he can’t touch anything properly. Over the course of a thousand years, he has learned to mellow out from what he was previously, becoming a calmer, and more stoic individual. He takes a personal offence to being called a slave.

History
Many moons ago, in a faraway land, lived a child called Hrothbart. He was born into a life of servitude, being the son of slaves. For most of his life, he toiled restlessly under the ever-watchful eye of his masters, either constructing monuments to them or heading into dangerous tombs to find relics.
However, Hrothbart wasn’t like the other slaves. He showed an aptitude for magic that few others had. So it was that he was spirited away in the dead of night and brought to an old temple. What followed were several days of trial and torture as fledgling dark sorcerers were pitted against each other to win the favour of Eliphas the Awakener, a powerful thaumaturge and leader of a dark cult. Hrothbart managed to outright destroy the competition, and was welcomed by Eliphas into the ways of dark sorcery.
As his training progressed, Hrothbart devoured the knowledge given to him, growing in strength constantly. It seemed that no amount of knowledge could satisfy him. To that end, he rooted out some old Grimoires from a nearby tomb and began dabbling in even more dangerous and powerful rituals. There came a time when Eliphas became concerned that Hrothbart would one day be powerful enough to destroy him. He began to act against his student, planning a ritual that would sap Hrothbart of his power permanently. Hrothbart had anticipated this action, however, and killed his master, taking his ring as a memento to his beginnings.
Hrothbart was now free to act as he wished, which he did. He began raiding tombs to find magical relics, writing his own dark spellbooks in the blood of his enemies, and becoming a force to be reckoned with. Hrothbart the slave died, to be replaced with Lord Sadow, a creature of hatred and malice. As he expanded his power base, movements were made against him. Lord Sadow had become a true dark power.
At the moment of his greatest triumph, however, Sadow was taken by the Heavenly Saints and stripped of his power and body, being reduced to little more than a ghost. He was placed in a house removed from the mundane world and instructed to maintain it and, when the time came, teach its custodians magic. At first, Sadow did not take his sentence lightly, and cursed the Saints with all his breath. As the years passed, however, he grew repentant, and became used to his position as caretaker and mentor. So much so, in fact, that he chose to be known as Mentor.
