Overview:
An innocent and naïve girl Madeline wants to do everything she can to make people happy and she has enough energy to do it and a lot more. She also has a deep desire to learn and is always perusing through various books that is available to her and tries to do online courses in order to study while she’s working off her debt.
The fact that she has an enormously large amount of debt to pay off doesn’t faze her at all. She simply puts it as a goal that she needs to achieve and does her best to pay it off. The fact that she’s sacrificing potentially years to pay off the debt doesn’t strike her as odd and she simply continues to have a positive outlook on life and says that it’s all part of life.
She’s easily enticed into doing things because of her naivety and it’s not uncommon for her to agree to things that most people would stop and think about. This is mainly because of her desire to help people and she believes that refusal means that she’s not helping them. Not surprisingly she doesn’t like fighting and tries to resolve things peacefully if possible.
She puts on a brave face for many things as she does not want anyone to worry about her. Death is constantly in her mind as she knows how dangerous being a Hunter is and she tries to put it out of her mind, but when faced with it she continues with her façade and reassures others that she’s fine with it though she is completely frightened of it and will freeze when faced with the inevitable.
Her feelings towards the organization are neutral as she does not bear them ill-will because she believes that they are simply doing what needed to be done to secure her talents.

History
Born to an unremarkable family in London Madeline should have had a normal, boring life. However that wasn’t the case as her father and mother were avid travelers and they were not afraid to get their hands dirty. Madeline’s earliest memory were coming with her parents and camping in all sorts of places as well as learning essential skills such as rock climbing and first-aid.
However that gradually slowed down when Madeline started to go to high school and eventually stopped altogether when she became serious about studying. It was around this time that Madeline came across a ‘Precious’, it was during one of her forays with nature where she would dig in random places to see if she could find something when she found a tablet that was written in various languages; Madeline was excited to see it and she picked it up at which time the tablet exploded sending Madeline flying backwards.
Naturally the school forbade her from digging up places again after the incident and a hospital check later saw no complications. But in reality the tablet allowed Madeline to decode any languages that she see whether or not she knew about it in the first place; this first cropped up during a French class where she was able to perfectly decode what it said though she still found it hard to write French when translating it from English, but she was able to relatively pass the course.
This happened in a couple more language classes before one day she was able to decode what a hieroglyph meant surprising even a professor who never thought that a 15 year old girl would be able to actually decode the ancient Egyptian language. Naturally this also brought the attention of the Department of Ancient Recovery who decided that they needed her abilities no matter what.
Therefore they set up a plan where they dragged Robert, Madeline’s father, into a bar and got him roaring drunk before betting him on whether or not a soccer team would win. Being drunk Robert agreed not knowing what the full sum was and subsequently lost very badly. When he came to he realized what he had done and that his family now has a debt totaling to 58,972,70 pounds, (approximately $10 million US) an amount that they would never be able to pay off.
When all things seemed bleak the Department approached the Briars and offered them a deal: in return for Madeline working for them as a ‘researcher’ on ancient artifacts they would pay off the debt; however naturally Madeline would need to pay off the debt and that would take considerable time. Being the kind soul she was Madeline agreed in order to help her parents and make sure that they do not have a crushing debt to pay off sacrificing her education in order to do so.

Anything Else:Unknown to anyone else except Madeline, the Department wrote up a life insurance policy whereas upon her untimely demise the entire debt is cleared by the Department as well as an extra 2,948,635 pounds (approximately $5 million USD) given to her family.
