Overview:

Rei's a real go getter. If she wants something she'll charge after it and won't give up until it's hers. She's strong headed and not the sort to bite her tongue. In the heat of the moment she'll often angrily say things she'll regret later. But she'd much rather voice her feelings then spend the rest of her life wondering what would have happened if she spoke up. She's swift to anger but quick to laugh and as long as you don't step on her toes she's very good at loosening people up.

She's kind and caring but not the type to believe self sacrifice truly makes anyone happy. That should always be the last option. Ideally everyone stay alive and everyone comes home. She likes to think positively but she's not naive. She'd just rather not fixate on potential negatives. Still, when it comes to planning she will be cool and rational, reserved. Such a shift in nature often surprises people as otherwise she is often temperamental.

Rei takes her duties very seriously but she likes to have fun along the way whenever possible. Who ever said you couldn't mix business and pleasure? She practices like she should but she acknowledges that even machines will break down without rest. She makes sure she has enough "me time", time to relax and set aside the world's troubles.

She's often viewed as the unpaid psychologist on the team. She worries that certain other members, her boyfriend in particular aren't getting enough "me time", expressing their emotions enough, or coping with the stress in general. She doesn't think there's any shame in being afraid or being frustrated. Those are natural, human emotions. Anyone who wants to be a Shinkenger all the time is mad in her book. They're Shinkengers but they're something more. She doesn't think that their duty should completely define them. Outside of the job they do have lives, hopes, and ambitions like everyone else.

History

Rei was a much loved and wanted child. Her mother was ShinkenPink so Rei couldn't see her nearly as much as she liked but it was obvious that her mother loved her. She'd give her presents when she returned and spent some time reading her stories. Rei was frustrated that her mother was gone so often but her father explained the important responsibility her mother had that would one day fall to her. Still, it was tough to only see her mother on holidays. At least she was kind enough to show up for Rei's birthday as well as her father's.

She was raised in the way of the samurai, Bushido, by her father as he knew one day she would become ShinkenPink like her mother before her. Her father was an excellent swordsman and was quite strict with the training. But Rei understood that he was just trying to better her and protect her.

Originally Rei was a bit reluctant and resistant towards the training. She’d much rather spend her time climbing trees than swinging a sword. Still, she came to accept that she had little say in her future. Her mother was doing noble work trying to protect the innocent. But one day she would fall in battle like her mother had before her. And then it would be Rei’s place to take up the sword. She brooded and fumed for a little bit. But eventually saw that this was the way of things. As she’d rather be happy than miserable, she tried to make the best of everything. She found things she loved about the sword and dedicated herself to practice. Still, every now and again she’d put her foot down and tell father she needed a break, needed space and time for her.

As much as Rei loved her mother her mother scared her. She didn’t understand how she could be so “selfless” and singularly devoted to duty. It was like her mother didn’t know what to do when she wasn’t fighting, like once she set down her sword there was so little left she couldn’t function. She never seemed to be entirely relaxed. She was perfectionist and never seemed to be able to let things go. She was constantly quoting the Book of Five Rings and In the Shadow of the Leaves. She tried to get her daughter to read it but Rei refused. She didn’t want a life filled only with duty. There was clearly love between her parents but the love seemed secondary to responsibility to her. Why else would Mother rarely visit?

Her parents had enough money so that college wouldn’t be necessary if Rei wanted to devote all her time to practicing. But she didn’t. She wanted a job and a career outside the Shinkenger thing. She wanted something else that was just hers. And it didn’t hurt to be able to support herself. And beyond that Rei wanted to go somewhere far away. She wanted space and distance and a taste of outside life. She swore she’d keep up her practice and everything would be fine. Her father didn’t entirely believe her but he didn’t try to stop her, hoping a college experience would ground her. But this was not to be.

When Rei was 18 in the process of applying to colleges her mother died gloriously on the battle field. Leaving was no longer an option as she’d have to take on her obligations immediately. Putting her dreams aside somewhat, she applied to local schools, determined to study as well as fight. Free time was rare but she pulled it off. Being fascinated with technology given the fact that she trained with rather crude equipment, she decided to become a computer engineer.

During her second year of college she was approached by Kai Shiba. She no longer operated alone but started working with other people.

Rei graduated when she was 21 and quickly secured a job as a computer engineer.

A few months ago, Zangyack attacked and now she has to deal with them along with Gendoshu.
