Tomoko woke up one morning feeling really, really strange. While having strange mornings was usual for her (Satomi had a habit of using the oddest means to wake her up), this was one of the strangest yet. Looking at her clock, she saw the time as 7:15. Satomi was probably just getting up herself, so it was a bit early for her to get up. In response, she simply flopped onto her bed and--
Wait, she told herself, sitting up and looking at her alarm clock. She could see it. Clearly. Rubbing her eyes, she made sure nothing was wrong, but it was still clear as day. She reached over for her glasses and put them on, only to find that she couldn't really see out of them anymore, and it made her dizzy just looking through them. "What the...? Okay then..." She then decided to at least start her day early, and take her shower. It wasn't until she was getting dressed and tried putting her bra on that she realized that it was a much tighter fit than before. Great. Now I need to buy new bras... Sighing, she stepped out of the bathroom just as Satomi was getting up out of her room.
"Oh, Tomoko! I'm surprised you're up this early!" she said, smiling. "Especially after yesterday. You felt really sick and just went to your room after dinner."
"Oh... oh right, yeah. Well, I'm fine now. I feel a lot better than fine, actually," Tomoko commented, realizing that that's probably what the strange feeling from this morning was. "Hey, Satomi? Eyes don't suddenly recover their sight, right?"
Satomi raised an eyebrow. "I'm not a doctor, Tomoko, but I'd say no. Why do you ask?"
"Oh, no reason." With that, Tomoko sat down to get breakfast. About 15 minutes later, Satomi joined her, and they went through their usual breakfast routine. Tomoko was doing her impersonation of a bunny rabbit when... something shot out of her wrist. Both of them looked up at the ceiling and saw that there was now a web right above her. They looked back down at each other and promptly screamed.
It took a few minutes for Satomi to calm down. Tomoko, on the other hand, was on the couch, panicking. "W-What's happening to me, Satomi?!" she asked, holding her wrist.
"Well..." Satomi started. "If I had to guess... You probably inherited some of dad's powers?" she asked.
"Dad wasn't able to shoot webs from his wrists. Neither could Gramps," she told her. "Also, dad got his powers when he was two, so I don't think it's that!!" the younger sister shouted, causing her to get a dope slap from the older.
"Calm down! Okay, so it's not it! Well, let's think about it. What could have happened yesterday that got you these powers?"
"W-Well... Everything was the same as usual... I got bit by a spider, came home, ate, and passed out--" Pause. "That's it! The spider bite!"
"A spider bite? So a spider bit you and now you have powers...?" Satomi asked. "Sounds like something out of one of your comic books..."
"And being given blood by a race of spider-people isn't?" Tomoko countered.
"...touche."
"A-Anyway, I have webbing. That's what sets me apart from Dad and Gramps..."
"You think you have everything else?"
"I'd think-- YES, YES I DO!" Tomoko suddenly shouted, looking in what seemed to be a random direction.
"Tomoko, you're scaring me," Satomi said. "Why are you looking that way?"
"You know that Spider-Sense thing Dad had?"
"You mean that tingly feeling that he has at the back of his head whenever one of us were in trouble? He called it his 'Dad Sense'."
"Yeah, there's that... something's going on that way, but it's really far...."
"...wait here," Satomi told her, walking back into her room. Tomoko could hear the sound of several items getting shuffled around and knocked over before she came back out with a rather large bracelet-looking thing. "Here. If you're planning on going, you're probably gonna need this."
"That's... Gramps' old Spider-Bracelet... I forgot it was brought back when the war ended..." Tomoko was almost about to tear up at the thought. "But how did you know I was--?"
Satomi put a hand on her younger sister's head. "I know you, Tomoko. You always think about others before yourself, so of course you were gonna go. This way, you're at least not going in unprotected."
Tomoko looked at the brace before nodding and taking it. She then pressed the button -- just as she had seen her grandfather do so many times when she was a little girl, and the suit formed around her. Without a moment's hesitation, she headed to the balcony. "Wish me luck, Satomi!" she said before trying to shoot a web. "Um... how did I do that the first time...?"
"Didn't you do your bunny impression? With your two fingers pressed to your palm and your other two fingers up?"
"Was it that?" she asked, doing the motion and shooting another web. "...Okay, it was. Anyway, I'm going now!" With that, she shot a web at a building and swinging off of it.
Satomi rushed to the balcony and hoped her sister didn't run into any buildings... but she was zipping from building to building like an old pro.
Later that night, Satomi came in with the evening paper. "Guess who made the front page~?" she said, tossing the paper to Tomoko, who caught it.
"'Sensational Spider-Girl Stops SHOCKER...'" Tomoko told her. "Is that what they're calling me?"
"Yeah! They even mentioned granddad in the article, saying that you're a true successor to his name! ...sort of."
However, Tomoko was focused on the picture. "...I don't like it."
"The picture? You know how hard it is to capture someone zipping through Tokyo on a web?"
"No, no! The suit! I don't like the suit! It's old fashioned, like something from the seventies!"
"Granddad got that bracelet in the seventies--"
"Satomi, help me design a new outfit! You're good at that right?" she asked.
The older sister just sighed. Tonight was going to be a looong night.
