Following the battle, Iris had been able to call in relief for Kiriha and the others who they couldn't take care of in the field. He had been sedated from pretty much the start, and left unconscious. He'd woken up a few times, but it was a haze. He had no idea what had happened, and now he was in an URSA hospital.
At first he'd wanted to release all of his anger, but where would that get him? Nowhere. He lost something important in the field. He didn't need to go, but he had chosen to go at least for a short period of time. Now he was regretting it. This was more than just his arm, this was his career.

It had been a little while, but Natsumi had arranged enough of a gap in her schedule to come and visit him, and she cracks the door, seeing how he was..

He was lying awake in bed, just staring at the ceiling.

"I heard about what happened." She said brusquely, entering and shutting the door. "Sorry to hear that it happened. Have they been treating you well?"

"I don't know," he said, still looking at the ceiling, "I'd assume so, considering they're keeping me heavily medicated and usually unconscious. That's a kindness, at least."

"It is." She said quietly, walking over and placing her hand in yours. The chief wasn't going to say anything about "told ya so." even though she'd cautioned against going there.

"My medical career is pretty much worthless now," he said softly, turning his head to look at her, "I can still be a doctor with one hand. Or with a prosthetic, but...," he shook his head, "Time is a factor I can no longer provide."

"We can get you an assistant if you feel you need one." Natsumi gave. "I understand, regarding the time thing. But you still have the knowledge in your head to fulfill your dream. This is a challenge that you must adapt to. And I believe you will, with time."

"An assistant only takes away from someone. I'll be having a babysitter, and just taking time and assets away from something else," he muttered. He shouted and slammed his fist into the bed in anger.

Natsumi remained cool and impassive. "If that's how you feel about it, then it will not be done."

He looked up at the ceiling, "I should have died out there. Iris shouldn't have had them save me..."

"You know she is idealistic in her own way. She cares about those that volunteer for her." Natsumi shakes her head. "I think you're the only one with that opinion, though."

"I'm useless now," he told her, "At this point I'm just wasting resources."

Natsumi glares at him. "Useless? That's a slap in the face to your fellow medical personnel who are taking care of you. Resources can be replaced, humans cannot!" She slips into the cold persona, like her father would. "If you value our mutual confession that little, then perhaps I made a mistake. You're alive, others are not. Deal with it and adapt or perhaps you will get what you want. Your friend wouldn't want that. I wouldn't want that. But I'm not going to baby you either." She places the few flowers that she brought carefully in a vase, and steps back from the bed.

He laid his head back, "It's different when you can say it to someone, as opposed to being the one saying it," he told her, "No doubt I'd say the same, our positions reversed. Speaking on it, and living it, feeling it...those are far different things."
