Overview:
Alaric is someone who doesn’t take things as seriously as he should. He can be childish and very much a man-child at times, but is very much and adult and realizes the error of his ways, although sometimes not until after he’s already fucked up. At that point he will try to fix things or make amends or whatever he has to do. Assuming it’s something he cares about. He might just do it to be childish to someone he doesn’t like.
He’s become jaded over the years, but not too jaded to make stupid mistakes. He still pays attention to and realizes things going on around him. Despite being jaded, he thinks of himself as young at heart, and tries to keep up to date with modern things and tries to remain youthful and energetic, but he usually just finds himself smoking or drinking instead and losing that energy, since well, who wants to do things with a nearly 50 year old man who thinks of himself as a child at heart?
He’s rather good at sleight of hand, and studied magic in his youth (stage magic, not real magic. That doesn’t exist, he claims). He’s good at slipping things in and out of places (pockets, for instance) and has learned how to handcuff himself to someone/handcuff someone without them realizing it. He usually handcuffs himself to someone to be inconvenient, especially to criminals. His line of reasoning is “Do you really want to be dragging a corpse across town? You can’t kill me.”
He does this to screw around with people too. Moving things without them noticing, handcuffing people to things, it’s all good fun. He also likes to carry a water gun with hot sauce when he’s not on actual cases, just to screw around with people, because it burns like hell. Of course, he only does that to people he can, like friends, enemies. He doesn’t do it to random people or his superiors.
Despite his childish nature, he still got married young, and genuinely loved his wife, and still feels something for her. They were married after all, so even if they are now divorced why shouldn’t he feel something? He also had a great love for his daughter, and would do anything for her. The fact that she emancipated herself hurts him deeply.
He knows he’s getting older, and has considered retirement, even though he can keep going for years before the normal retirement age hits. He’s had a number of hard assignments that have worn down on his mind and body, and that’s one reason he retired to be a PI. Him being pulled back in is difficult for him, and weighs on him so much. The fact he was given a Deka suit is also hard. Why him? He doesn’t deserve it, why not a younger guy?
He’s somewhat of a womanizer, although very loyal when he’s with someone (although the occasional glance happens, and maybe an awkward situation here and there, through little fault of his own). He’s a decent man in that regard, and usually things just happen, women make the moves, and it leaves him with explaining to do when someone inevitably sees. When he’s not in a relationship, casual sex happens from time to time, because he still looks good, and he’s witty.
As said, he’s witty. He pays attention and likes to crack jokes, especially at inopportune times, but he’s not a jerk about it. If it’s a sad or terrible situation, he won’t, he’ll hold himself back. Any other time? Sure. He also likes to make overt, actual jokes. He’s far more witty, however. That’s his thing. It helps him either attract people in, or alienate them completely.
He’s never been good with anything outside of basic self-defense (and even then, it comes down to “I will kick you in the cunt”), and his marksmanship, which he found to be his best bet at getting good with. Cheap shots are a favorite of his.

History
His father was an alcoholic author, and his mother was dead from a young age in his life. He grew up under his father, learning to be candid in many things, and to take up drinking because it looked like a good lifestyle. His father may not have been the best, but he had money and stuff, and did his best to love.
Alaric’s life was different. He knew he was going to follow his father’s example. Give love, no matter how hard. Go through life, no matter how hard. He took his father’s mannerisms as well, learned from his wit, from his language. He got in trouble a lot in school, and was expelled a few times. He tried writing about his experiences in life, but it went nowhere for him. He also took up magic.
A teacher prompted him to go into law enforcement. He didn’t want to, but he had a friend whose father was a cop. He saw the job and rode along a few times, and went with that idea. He met Ellen after starting the academy, and the two fell for each other and had a daughter not long after.
He came out of the academy and got a job soon. Ellen took care of Davina, and then when she joined the Marines, he was against it. He let her go, since it wasn’t his place to stop her. He had help raising Davina, and became close with his daughter, spending time not on duty with her.
When Ellen came back, they had a hard time. Their personalities seemed to clash far more, and they soon divorced. Davina emancipated after she was old enough. He warned her not to enter the field of her parents, and hoped she’d listen.
He left homicide and became a PI, finding it easier to take. He was brought back by the Dekarangers and given a suit, even though he didn’t want it. His track record in homicide was good, though, and they gave him one so he could keep doing what he was doing.
He then found he might work with his ex-wife, and his daughter was up to…well, he wasn’t sure.
But he does want to patch things up.
