Annie kept pace. She wondered if anyone had gotten any ideas about a pair of women walking down the street holding hands. Not like Annie cared. If anything, seeming not only taken, but a lesbian as well, kept the possibilities of forming connections on the surface low.

When they came to a park, Hayley let go of the hand and went to sit on the bench that was overlooking a pond.

Annie walked to join her, sitting next to her. She looked up, simply watching. She loved the sight of a blue sky. She spent too much of her life trapped below soulless concrete; she would've gone stir-crazy if she didn't have these moments outside long ago.
