Jon lived a quiet, solitary life in the mountains. He traveled around Japan for some time after leaving URSA, searching for any stray cracks. That's when he came upon one deep in the mountains, a place long untouched by humankind.
He dared not go through it and kept his distance. No vines spread forth from it and it did not close not even after a long while. Jon knew the horrors these things were capable of for he had only experienced first hand himself.

"I'm far too old for this," Ian grumbled to himself, climbing further up the mountains. Of course no one was like to take him seriously with the way his eyes shined and the way his mouth was just very nearly curved into a smile. The scenery was breathtaking. Of course Ian wasn't simply here for the view. He felt something...He couldn't accurately explain what it was but there was a sense of wrongness about something up here. Call it magical intuition. After all these years Ian knew better than to ignore his stirrings. He would investigate and see if something needed to be done.

Jon sat crisscross on a flat bed of stone, his eyes closed and his mind in deep contemplation. The Crack was further up the path, hidden by the trees. He felt the warm breeze on his face, carrying a whisper to his ears.
"Coward.."
He shrugged it off. He had been learning to deal with these voices and these delusions for quite some time now, but it still frightened him - the ghosts of his past.

Ian continued his trek up the mountain, the sense of wrongness growing stronger all the time. He had no idea what could possibly be causing such a disturbance. All he knew was that it certainly wasn't pleasant.
Eventually he found someone sitting on a stone, eyes shut tight. Ian recognized the stance as meditative. He knew it was poor form to disrupt people when they were attempting to meditate. But perhaps this man new something about the disturbance in the mountains. If possible Ian would prefer not to wander in blind. "Excuse me, would you mind terribly giving an old man a moment of your time," he said gently, wondering if that would be enough for him to take notice of Ian.

Images flashed through Jon's mind in rapid succession: dancing, glasses, fruits, cakes, monsters, trees, screams, a glowing light..
He couldn't take it anymore and smacked his own head in order to stop it, at least for the time being. The pain was no big deal, he'd been through much, much worse.
Jon opened his eyes to behold an elderly man who seemed to be wayward traveler. How could he have been so careless? He should have heard this man's approaching footsteps..
"An old man, hmm?" he raised his brow, "What's an old man like you doing up a treacherous mountain like this?"

Ian knew he was disrupting the man in front of him and felt bad for the intrusion; but, it couldn't be helped. It was possible he knew something about this disturbance in the mountains. And if that was the case Ian wanted to pick his brain before he went rushing into whatever the heck it was. He'd learned caution in his old age. Someone with his more feeble was better off coming in with a plan. Not like it always worked out that way or really even most of the time. The world was unpredictable and all you could do was respond.
He smirked at the question. "If I told you I was a mage investigating a disturbance would you believe me?" His reponse would tell Ian quickly if he had anything valuable to contribute to the conversation. If he laughed it off declaring no such thing existed than likely he couldn't help him all that much.

"A mage, huh?" said Jon before bursting into laughter, "I haven't seen a mage in a long time. Perhaps you too are acquainted with Soma Haruto? Hmm?"
Jon had never actually met the man named Soma Haruto in person, but he heard tales of his exploits from a maker of magic rings and wearer of terrible clothing.
He then stood up onto top of the rocky surface and began to stretch with seemingly perfect balance.
"So, i'll ask my question again. What is a mage like you doing on this mountain?"

Well he did burst into laughter but it sounded like he actually believed in mages. He did mention a genuine mage name. But now was neither the time nor the place to delve inot the topic of Soma Haruto.
"I told you. I'm investigating a disturbance. Something feels very wrong up here so I'm coming to check it out. I was wondering if you knew anything about it."

"A disturbance, huh?" he stroked his beard. He was about to make a Star Wars joke, but decided against it. It was serious face time right now.
He crossed his arms, while stealthy going for what was in his pocket.
"Mage or not, you are not welcome on this mountain. Go back. I will not repeat myself again."

Oh great. This new guy wanted to fight. Why did they always want to fight? Ian rarely got to investigate in peace. Well, why should he expect this time to be any different?
"Well, I'm sorry to hear you're unwilling to cooperate but I'm not heading back. I need to check some things out."

Jon stood his ground, looking as imposing as possible. He would rather avoid fighting, especially against a mage. If it did come down to it, he had home field advantage.
"There is nothing here for you to investigate. This mountain does not concern you."

Ian met the man's cold hard gaze. It took a lot to intimidate him after all his battles, all the incredible things he'd witnessed. He was not afraid.
"If there really is nothing for me to investigate then this won't take long at all," he said warmly, ignoring the hostility exuding from whoever this younger man was. "I'm sorry to have disrupted your meditation. As it's obvious you can't help me I'll be on my way." He didn't start moving yet though, waiting to see if this younger man would be foolhardy enough to strike him down. He might have been old but his powers were far from weak. He was a very powerful mage.

He forced a smile, "Do..as you wish."
He bowed his head, a signal for the man to pass. If he wanted to continue up the mountain so bad, so be it, but it sure won't be that simple...
Jon's been in a lot of battles himself, he's picked up some tricks here and there, even if they're not magic.

Ian was skeptical that suddenly the man seemed so cooperative. He was on his guard as he began passing him, expecting an assault at any moment.

Covering a rather decent sized patch before Ian was a trap hole covered by leaves and brush, much like the kind you see in cartoons. The hole was nine feet long, 5 feet wide. It took Jon almost three weeks to dig it.
