Ian was more concerned about the man behind him than the ground and so fell into the hole. The experience wasn't pleasant and he was sure his old bones would really feel that tomorrow. But for the moment he just laughed. "Well that should teach me to mind where I put my feet!"
No matter. He drew on the power from his teleport ring and teleported out of the hole right alongside the younger man. He just arched his eyebrows at him. "Are you sure you want to fight me?"

He arched his eyebrows back at him, his arms still folded and his hands still clutching the hidden items.
"Fight you? When did I say that? I did forget to warn you about that hole though and I apologize for any inconvenience it may have caused you. Now run along now, mage. It'll be dark soon and you don't want to be in the mountains after night fall.."
If it did come down to fight, Jon was not even sure if he could beat this guy. His opponent may beat him by a few decades and have magic, but Jon had the training and the years of military experience. Who knows? It could go either way.

Ian rolled his eyes. "I wasn't born yesterday you know. But if you want to play dumb far be it from me to stop you." He continued on his way, expecting the man to attack him but being unwilling to make the first strike himself. Ian didn't like violence and preferred to avoid fights whenever possible. Unfortunately it wasn't possible nearly as much as he liked.

"I wasn't, how you say, born yesterday either," he replied snidely, "But if you do want a fight, i'd be more than happy to oblige. If not, I'd say it's more than time for you to be on your merry way."
A single sweat beat rolled down Jon's forehead. He was really hoping the mage would just turn around and go home. This was no place for him or anybody else. Nobody should ever go near that ever again. No one else knows the horrors it caused. The loved ones it tore away.
You could practically cut the tension between the two like a knife.
"Excuse me?"
Jon was so busy focused on the old mage that he didn't notice the bespectacled man strolling towards them, an over packed backpack revealing his status as a traveler.
