Elena had given Ian an earful. She rather liked their home in England and didn't appreciate moving to Japan all of sudden. The two of them had moved around a lot during their time together. Both were fluent in Japanese as the phantoms seemed to attack this area more than any other for some unbeknownst reason. Ian had troubling dreams which had brought him back here. He wasn't sure at all what they meant but he had made enough sense to determine that whatever would happen would be in Japan.
Hoping to get re-acclimated to Japan quickly, he'd decided to take a walk in the forest. Walks, particularly ones with beautiful scenery always calmed him down. He would have asked Elena to join him had her mood been a bit more pleasant. But she'd calm down soon enough. She was just probably fearful for Ian, afraid this time he'd actually die.
