The Earth faced the threat of the Zangyack, and in the aftermath of the initial attack began to repurpose Zangyack technology. Some of their ships were converted into Zord technology, while their weapons and extraterrestrial technology was converted to Ranger gear. In order to help in the future fights, the group behind this team began to gather data on other teams and convert them to keys (although it is believed that mystical means were used as well) to allow the Rangers access to a wider range of powers in their fight. On the Zangyack side, they have their own, reverse-engineered from the reverse-engineering of their own tech. Pirate Killer. Do the Pirate Rangers have a singular source for their morphers and powers? I didn't glean much background info on the Pirate Armada from the forum-based source material I've read so far.

It's more of finding remains of destroyed Zangyack ships and stuff and scavenging the materials.
The Keys came from a wizard. Like Zordon. Seriously.
