"1000 years ago the Animarium was a paradise that held the Power Animals, who protected the world from the destructive decay of the deity called the Wyrm, which was represented on Earth by the demonic Orgs and their minions the Fomor (singular is Fomori). Each Power Animal granted a human partner their power, contained in athames holding Animal Crystals, in order to fight back against the beasts. Six entered the final battle, but only five managed to survive the attempt to seal the Org away. Time passed and the Power Animals slept until they would be needed once more."
So the legend goes at leasy, add no one sure if Animaria truly exists. The Wyrm and his flunkies all exist though, sadly.
Time passed and the pollution of the Earth and the extinction of many animals continued without the help of the Animals or Guardians. Recently however, a new breed of Guardians has appeared to fight the Wyrm's advances and find the Animarium - if it truly exists. However, these Guardians are different from those past in one big way - they aren't human.
These six were referred to as Changelings. They were all the product of (likely nonconsenting) unions between Orgs and Humans who have been saved from becoming Orgs themselves by having an animal spirit bound to them. These spirits are an extension of the final six animals, and grant them two boons.
The first is the Animals' crystals, small orbs forged from a solidified piece of that animal's soul, which let's them turn into Gaoranger using the G-Phones as a form of magical symbiosis with their bound spirits.
The second boon from the Power Animal to the Changeling called the Wyld's Blessing. The Lion granted it's partner s voice that commands attention (and works like a Canary Cry), Shark and Eagle the ability to survive in the seas and skies, Bison magical strength, Tiger great speed and grace, and Wolf the ability to turn into a less refined and more feral sync. Any other Changelings in the Wyld are assumed to also have been blessed.
The Gaorangers have an uphill battle ahead of them, but someone has to fight for humanity. Fighting aspects of a dark god, looking for paradise, and dodging the curious scientists of the WEAVER institute - just an ordinary Tuesday for them.
