Illegal Aliens [Open]

[Jessica Butcher]

Jessica walked through a crowd of reporters and beat cops, her eyes covered by sunglasses and her formal badge strapped to her lapel. The local police had covered the charge of her flight, so apparently whatever had went down was BAD. She climbed up the stairs into the station, a barrage of various microphones and questions.

[The Sentinels]

With the convergence event came the endless chaos that resulted from this. Neither world had been ready when the change began and right now America was no different with them trying to figure out what was going on. Thankfully the US President had been safe along with the various White House officials as he was now in a secret location while the rest of the world tried to figure out what to do with the increase of the Kaijins; the Sentinel Division has now gone into overdrive with men being drawn from all life in order to protect America while the commanders had the job of calming the public as well as fighting against them.

Adriana and Nina walked into the media circus as they were flanked by a group of Sentinels carrying assault rifles, "I'm nervous," Nina admitted quietly.

"Don't be you'll be fine," Adriana said, "just don't talk too much or give too much information; I'll be doing most of the talking and most importantly don't try to antagonise these...'Rangers' as the name rolled off her tongue in disgust."

"Y-yeah," Nina said as the two of them walked up into the station and ignored the barrage of microphones and questions.

[Jessica Butcher]

Jessica walked quickly through the building to get to the conference room. She let her shades cover her eyes as she covertly scanned the reactions of the other cops present. Some recognized her badge, some ignored her entirely, some treated her with amusement, and others stared at her in disdain. She rolled her eyes, not caring what they thought.

She sat down in a chair marked with her name, taking her sunglasses off as a sign of respect. She didn't know who else was coming, so she kept herself busy in the meantime by taking out a rag and cleaning them. Once that was done she carefully set her morpher on the table, activating the audio recorder on it so she could take notes on the briefing. Plus, in her experience having it be on the table was like showing that you had the safety on; it helped things along.

[The Sentinels]

The sight of armed soldiers surprised and unnerved the cops as Adriana asked where one of the DekaRangers were as she was pointed to the conference room. She began heading there before turning to the Sentinels, "Stay here, only me and Lieutenant Steele will go inside," she said as the Sentinels nodded. Nina and Adriana then opened the door before entering and closing it, "Are you the senior DekaRanger officer here?" she asked.

[Jessica Butcher]

"I am indeed" Jessica said, wondering why there were soldiers were here. "Detective Butcher. May I ask about why the army is involved?"

[The Sentinels]

"Well detective as I'm sure you are aware. Our world and your world are quite different as the...convergence as we call it has shown us. We just want to know what exactly does the DekaRangers do and how they're different from your ordinary police officer," Adriana said. 

[Jessica Butcher]

"Ah" Jessica said, slowly inching her badge into her hand. "That's relatively simple. We worked as police officers before we were chosen to join the Dekarangers - I worked in Boston Major Crimes. The Dekarangers are tasked with crimes that are suspected to have involved an alien threat or be a threat to the galaxy, kind of like the FBI. Our Morphers, or whatever you call your similar devices, allow us to fight against these threats." Jessica displayed her SP Badge as she said that last part.

[The Sentinels]

"I see," Adriana said as Nina made some notes, "so you were former police officers before becoming some sort of intergalactic officers," as she took a look at the badge. It looked normal enough, but they would need further analysis, "Would you mind if we had one of this? We would like to analyse the SP Badge," she asked before going onto her next question, "also if you don't mind me asking if you are now fighting against...aliens, then does the law still to apply to you?"

[Jessica Butcher]

"I'll pull some strings and get one of the mass produced badges to you, but these ones are five of a kind" Jessica said. She narrowed her eyes at the mention of the second part. "Absolutely not. We respect the laws of whatever country or state we are operating in while solving a crime, and give the accused full Miranda Rights and due process. Hell, if you don't take proper care of evidence you could be stung by double jeopardy."

[The Sentinels]

"What's the difference between the mass produced ones and the five of a kind one?" Adriana asked as she nodded, "It was just a question Detective no need to get defensive, we just need to know every bit of the DekaRangers so we can have a...understanding. Now you deal with aliens, so I assume that you arrest them, I don't think Earth, excuse me my Earth, has any laws that applies to aliens...unless your world does as well. How do you process them exactly?"

[Jessica Butcher]

Jessica sighed. "Sorry, force of habit. The kind in my hand is only given to detectives, basically. Enhanced capabilities and technology. I'll try and get you the schematics for these, but they have to stay in circulation at all times."

"As for where they are tried, in our universe Dekaranger is a branch of a universal organization who set its own laws, a great number of which are on a higher psychic plane than you or I. There is a setting on our Badges that sends all relevant information to the network, and before you can blink the trial has already been tried in full. From there we are given the Guilty/Not Guilty verdict as well as sentencing information. There are two sentences - incarceration in a pocket dimension called the null void, or for more grisly offenses the authorized action is Deletion on the spot."

[The Sentinels]

Adrianna nodded, "If you could give them to us then that would be a sign of goodwill," she remarked as she listened to Jessica's explanation. She frowned at it as she looked up, "So you are telling me that there are no juries, no judge, no evidence or any sort of thing that would normally be used in an actual trial and instead some 'being' makes that judgement? And the choices are either incarceration in I suppose is an eternal prison or an execution? I'm sorry, but how exactly is that humane or even fair?"

[Jessica Butcher]

"Beings. Plural. There are juries and prosecutors and defense attorneys. I've once seen a case in process before - in slow motion - and The Network does function like a court. Acquittal happehs and affirmative defenses are used. It simply happens in nanoseconds" Jessica began. "And Null Void sentences aren't typically life sentences. The Null Void is used to contain species that can't be contained by physical prisons. Probation is handed out as needed."

"As for Deletion... You have to do something bad to get that. Murder, acts of terrorism, war crimes, you get the gist. I have it fewer of those than you think, but there are divisions that only deal with crimes that warrant it like SWAT."

[The Sentinels]

So there was a trial, but just one that isn't seen by the naked eye as Adriana wasn't sure whether to believe that or not. "Interesting, we'll come back to the trial process after I have spoken with the Secretaries and the President," as Nina made a note of that as Jessica commented about the Deletion part of their job. "So you act as executioners as well? You're the death penalty squad to say, at least for the division that you're talking about," she commented, "and there are no chance to appeal to a Deletion? Like in your usual death sentence process?"

[Jessica Butcher]

"Usually if we get a Deletion order that we carry out personally they've already terrorized numerous planets, can be easily linked to numerous deaths, have slaughtered police officers, etc." Jessica said. "There are a few times when those accused of capital crimes are held in the Null Void until they'll get Deleted, I just don't personally handle any of those. Its also worth nothing that every so often we actually deal with human on other species crime instead of the other way around."
