"Well, shall we?" Jean motioned. He expected she would want him to lead the way, so he began walking. There was a coffee shop on a corner nearby, so that's where he was going.

She nodded and followed along just a little behind and to the side of him.

Might as well make small talk, so he wasn't just leading her about by the collar. "Do you have a name?" He asked.

"Alexis Pope," she told him, "Odd way to ask the question, though. Of course I have a name. Most people do."

"Apologies. Wording just sort of happens; it's a bit spontaneous." Jean replied. She had some wit; better than nothing, he supposed. She might be fun to hold a conversation with.

"So then, what's yours?" she asked, "I assume you're one of the many who has one, since you're French and can apparently afford things." She pictured the nameless as the poor, helpless in other, third world countries. Perhaps slaves.

"Jean." Ah, what's the harm. "Jean Ducard." He did suppose he could afford some things. It wasn't helping he was studying for his doctorate in law, which made it a bit harder to afford things, but Jean managed.

"I guess the name makes sense, given you sound French," she said. If this was France, she wouldn't be as sure. She was American and had picked up the British accent while here, after all.

"Plenty of my fellows have names that don't sound quite as French." Jean replied. This conversation was taking an odd direction. He just wanted to get his coffee and get on with his day.

"I'd imagine. Plenty of people have names that don't sound like where they're from. I'm glad I don't have one, they can be weird in the English speaking world. A normal name, that's all I want. Glad I have one."

Now she was talking crazy. This is exactly why Jean stuck to himself. He simply nodded, not wanting to point out the utter stupidity of her statement.

She sighed, "Did that sound stupid to you too?" she asked. He didn't seem to talk much, and she wanted to fill the void at least a little. Wasn't working by how it seemed.

"Apologies," she told him, "Just trying to fill the silence, but you're not much of a talker it seems like."

"Once you say something, you tend to never get it back." Jean had seen it happen with too many members of the elite to even dare let it happen to himself.
