"I graduated." He was still quite interested in philosophy. He'd been reading Kierkegaard the past few weeks.

"Studying for my juris doctorate." Hopefully she knew what that was. He wouldn't be surprised if she didn't.

That might explain it. American. They finally got to the coffee shop, and Jean held the door for Alexis. Chivalry was a courtesy some expected still, so he obliged.
