Akane beamed. She'd been worried he wouldn't be hungry or wouldn't want food. "I feel like something spicy. Any ideas?" She had a fondness for spicy foods even though they often made her eyes water and nose run. The taste was delicious and well worth the experience in her opinion! And she normally didn't take the time to have good food. She'd make something quick and instant and hurriedly shove it into her stomach before she got to one of her shifts.

"I'm afraid I'm not much of a food expert," he told her. Normally he figured someone could actually name a spicy type of food, or a country of origin to go to a restaurant of, but he had nothing. "Spicy sounds good though, I just don't have a location to suggest to you."

She paused to think. She didn't go to restaurants often but she was pretty sure there was an Indian restaurant nearby. And they were notorious for spicy food. "Are you okay with Indian food? I think there's a restaurant that's pretty close." She hoped she wouldn't get them lost.

"I'll be fine with anything," he told her, "It's been a while since I've had a proper meal. Most of the time it's just quick things, like protein bars and stuff." It was important to make them good, at least. Protein bars and the like were good choices. As a doctor he knew that he should eat more and take better care of his body, but this was his best effort.

Akane rolled her eyes. "As a doctor I'm sure I don't need to tell you how absolutely horrible that is for your health. Am I going to start having to bring you a bento?" she demanded. She ate quickly and bought most of her food but she made sure the stuff she put in her system was decent enough. She was getting her protein in non-bar format. And she was intaking the desired amounts of fruits and vegetables.

He looked at her and gave her a small smile, "You might have to," he said. He was being serious with that, it would probably be a lot more beneficial if she provided like that since he wasn't helping himself. He actually liked the sound of that, and it would mean that they'd see each other more, most likely, which was always a plus.

Akane blushed at his assent. Honestly, she'd been working up the nerve to try and ask him for a while or to just go ahead and do it. She truly was worried about his health and she liked the thought of helping him. She supposed she should thank her father for the nerve. She was too upset to be overly cautious.
"Well then I'll just go ahead and do it," she said assertively, still blushing. He knew she would too. If Akane said she'd do something it was as simple as that. And after all this time she had at least a sense of foods he liked and disliked. She was certain she could make something agreeable.

He smiled a bit wider, "That's great. It'll be nice to have a proper meal. But don't do it if it inconveniences you. I wouldn't want to burden you," he told her. That was true, he didn't want to make things difficult for her. He figured she'd think it was no trouble at all, or even claim as such, but he wouldn't be sure of what to make of it.

"It's no trouble at all," she assured him without hesitation. She was doing this! Akane was going to make bentos! She knew well enough how. She'd been preparing her own food for quite some time now. But she'd make sure his turned out nicer looking and just...better. She wouldn't disappoint him with poor quality of food or poor presentation or anything.

"If you say so," he smiled. He wasn't sure to believe her or not, but he'd take it gladly if she was offering and willing. He sighed and put his hands in his pockets, "I get to work in the clinic tomorrow," he told her, "Are you on shift? We might be working together." Tomorrow he had no trooper duty, unless he had to be called in as a field medic, but he wasn't sure, it would depend on the threat.

Akane eagerly bobbed her head up and down at his 'say so'. There was no way she was letting him talk her out of it! She'd finally worked up the nerve to ask. Okay...Not exactly ask...Something. But the point was he'd more or less agreed to it! It was happening.
She nodded her head again, beaming. "Yeah. I'm working clinic tomorrow." She chuckled. "You make clinic duty sound like a punishment." She certainly felt safer there than out in the fields. But she was a field medic and typically the people there needed more. So she always went immediately without complaint. Still...She'd be lying if she didn't say she preferred the sterile environment with all the necessary supplies and no monsters charging at her.

"Oh no," he shook his head, "I'm happy for it. I love it. I'm better at being a doctor than I am at being a soldier. A lot better." He hadn't actually done any work in the clinic for a while and was very much looking forward to it. "I spent so many years working to be a doctor after all, so getting to do it makes me so much happier."

Akane smiled, pleased to see he hadn't changed, not really. She'd worried when she found him as a soldier but really he was the same protective Kiriha who wanted to make a difference and save as many patients as possible. It was clear to her that although he fought he didn't relish the combat or the bloodshed like some of the soldiers did. He really was in it to save people.
"I've only been a doctor. clinic work or field work, my mission's the same! Much simpler!" She wasn't actually sure that was true. A lot of waiting and worrying. And the field medic part was certainly dangerous. But she was still glad she wasn't fighting. That just wasn't her. There was so much guilt when she couldn't save someone. She couldn't imagine the added pressures of taking life, even if they were monster lives.

"Agreed," he said. As hard as it was to be a doctor, it was a lot simpler than being a soldier on the front lines. On the front lines he had to worry about the different types of monsters and how to best combat them, and then he had to worry about the effectiveness of his weaponry, how much ammo he had, his rate of fire, his surroundings, civilians, if he had to switch to another type of weapon or round, how it would affect not only the monster, but everything around, and so on.
"How much farther?" he asked, "I'm really starting to feel the hunger."

"You're very brave to be a soldier." Cowardice hadn't been why she'd turned the offer down. She just knew her strengths and what her conscience could handle. Still...Sometimes she did feel a bit guilty, only doing damage control not helping with the actual problem. But killing...No, she couldn't possibly do that.
Finally the restaurant came in sight. "There!" she said, relieved. Good. She hadn't gotten them lost after all.
